You can drive an electric car where sun doesn’t shine for two months a year
Norway has more than 100,000 electric cars and a leading country by electric car per capita. Some politicians propose to completely ban fuel cars by 2015 in Norway.
People think it’s nice to drive a clean car and it of course costs less. Yes, in Norway it is really an advantage to have a green car. If you buy such car, the you don’t have to pay purchase tax, and toll or ferry charges. You don’t pay for parking and pay lower road taxes. You even get an access to bus lanes!
For these reasons, even the city that receives no sunlight for two months of the year focuses on electric car industry. The city is named Tromso, known as the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’. One of the most popular electric car makers Tesla has opened its’ its most northerly showroom in Tromso recently.
How do they produce electricity for the cars of the city which has no sunlight for two months is the question you might ask. Well, Norway produces almost 100% of its energy by renewable, cheap hydro power. There is an official fact that even if all the cars in Norway were electric, they will still use only 5-6% of the annual hydro power electricity production. And Norway is world’s one of the largest exporter of natural gas.
Therefore, the electricity for the green cars in Norway is enough and free! There is a public charging point out of the Tromso. The electricity pump is fast enough that you need only like 30 minutes to charge your car. If one doesn’t like to stay for 30 minutes at the station, he or she still can charge their can at home over night. However, some people don’t trust their electric cars to take them far away from the town as there are not enough charging points and they might stop somewhere in nowhere where there is no facility to charge their cars. So, the country is working on increasing the number of charging points.
Norway is definitely the best example of transaction to electric cars to the rest of the world.
